MACHISM OR SEXISM

Stella Anderson

Words are weapons. Very sharp weapons, depending on the case. The question is who and to fight who. Judith always talks about "machism" and sees it all over the place and time, as long as she has a man around. I once asked her what that word means and she couldn't say it, she just cited examples and statements against men. The word "machism" is not an established concept, it is just a weapon of struggle, misused and abused. Feminism, based on some canonical works, thematized the oppression of women and then crystallized, losing its critical and self-critical capacity, adapting to the surrounding world and naturalizing it. The difference between this stale feminism and what it fights against is that it puts more where those they fight put less and vice versa. So it is essential to resume the discussion about what women really need for their liberation, instead of dogmatic attachment to ideologies produced in the field of so-called "feminism". The first step is to critically reassess feminism and the use of trivialized terms such as "machism" and rediscover the real problem and not be left with illusory squabbles.
